Spicy, Spicier, Spiciest!

I asked the ladies to bring the heat to the Women’s Advanced Doubles and, boy, did they!

Sixteen teams came to play and they were split into 4 initial brackets: Red, White, Blue, and Green. And based on how they finished within their brackets, they got seeded into the Carolina Reapers (hottest), Ghost Peppers, Habaneros, or Cayennes (mildest).

In the Red bracket, Andrea Meta and Susan Noe swept their group to take the top spot, followed by Judi Bullock Bohr and Debbie Merlock at 2-1, Ann Friedline and Mary LaMere at 1-2, and Sharon McNeil and Val Parker at 0-3.

In the White bracket, top finisher Michaele Danielson and Kaylene Engel also went unbeaten, followed by Kim Hedden and Jonra Jacoby at 2-1, Marla Kilfoyle and Vickie Ostrander at 1-2, and Kathleen Ferlander and Pam Priddy at 0-3.

Over in the Blues, Laura Mayes and Diane Fulekey also went 3-0 for top honors, with Mary Ellen Dowsett and Kathy Pals going 2-1, Maureen Plainfield and Lucy Gambescia, 1-2, and Eva Peters and Bobbie Long, 0-3.

Lastly, the Greens had one unbeaten team with Melissa Six-Westerfeld and Jackie Bain, and the rest of the field tied at 1-2. In the tiebreaker (total points for), Nina Riley and Lisa Sullivan (24 pts) eked out a 4 point margin over Evelyn Good and Vicki Babbe (20 pts). Lisa Farrell and Marlene Milkosky rounded out the field with 17 pts.

In the Red Hot Chili Championships, Andrea and Susan continued their winning ways, dropping a total of just 1 pt over 3 games, to cook their way to Gold in the Carolina Reapers. Michaele and Kaylene earned the Silver and Laura and Diane, proud of their 1 pt against Andrea and Susan, finished with the Bronze. Melissa and Jackie get Honorable Mention – not bad at all considering the competition.

Over in the Ghost Peppers, Mary Ellen and Kathy swept their bracket for the Gold but we had another 3-way tie and needed to go to the total points for to determine who would get the Silver, Bronze or Honor Mention prizes. It was a close race with Nina and Lisa scoring 25, Judi and Debbie, 24, and Kim and Jonra with 22.

The Habaneros saw Maureen and Lucy winning the Gold by going 3-0. Silver went to Marla and Vickie at 2-1 and Bronze to Ann and Mary, by virtue of their 13-11 win over Evelyn and Vicki, who get Honorable Mention.

Last, but not least, we have the Cayennes. Eva and Bobbi finished 3-0 for the Gold, followed by Sharon and Val for Silver, Kathleen and Pam with the Bronze, and Honorable Mention going to Lisa and Marlene.
