Special Events

Throughout the year we run special tournaments, usually tied to a holiday or season. Here are a few examples.

Halloween Monster (S)Mash

All mixed doubles, six round-robin games (the first four include a bye for each team). The top 18 teams by points and wins advance to games 5 and 6. Games to 11, win by 1. No age restriction. Brackets are set by the number of teams, and the top 4 in each bracket play a single-elimination playoff for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. Costumes optional, with separate prizes.

Thanksgiving Leftovers

Mixed or Women’s/Women’s doubles. For mixed, a combined rating cap of 7.5 when the woman is the 4.0, or 7.0 when the man is the 4.0. For W/W, a combined cap of 8.0. No age restriction.

Winter Cup

Two Winter Cup events each year — one for women, one for men. The format depends on how many teams sign up (6 teams play a single weekend; 8 or 12 teams split across two weekends). Each team carries one 4.5, two 4.0s, two 3.5s, and one 3.0. Age 50+. $10 per team to cover the prizes. Full game pairings and match draws are posted before each event.
