About Us

Welcome to King Kong Tournaments!

King Kong Tournaments hosts weekly pickleball tournaments right here in The Villages, FL. Games run every Sunday at the Ezell courts, 10am to 2pm, organized by fellow Villager Fred Veenstra.

The Villages puts on a handful of tournaments each year, but plenty of local players wanted more chances to compete without driving out of town, and paying extra, just to find a bracket to play in. King Kong Tournaments was created to fill that gap.

Every week features a different event, organized around the rating systems used here in The Villages and split into Mixed, Women’s, or Men’s Doubles. We also run special themed events around holidays like Halloween and Thanksgiving.

Tournament Specifics

  • Teams play Mixed, Women’s, or Men’s Doubles, depending on the event.
  • Every tournament has a rating cap tied to it.
  • Players self-rate, generally using the higher of your legacy or current Villages tournament rating, or your DUPR. Unrated players can be vouched for by another player.
  • A team’s combined rating can be under an event’s cap, but never over it.
  • Most events are for ages 50+, though some are open to all ages.
  • Each event is usually 5 games against randomly drawn opponents, followed by a single-elimination playoff for the top 4 teams by total points, then wins, with ties broken by point differential. Format can change with the number of teams.
  • No partner yet? Hold your spot with a “TBD” and name your partner later, up to 4pm the Friday before the event.
  • The first 18 teams to register are in; additional teams join a waitlist as backups or subs.
