The Women’s Base Doubles, aka – The Strawberries and Cream Tournament, played today, and every team came dressed in their color coordinated Sunday best! These ladies were styling, including how they played.
In the Strawberries bracket, two teams were tied with 4-1 records and based on the tiebreaker, Jackie Minyard and Heidi Colburn edged out Julie Ferron and Lori Pasbrig with 51 to 47 points scored for each team. Sandy Phillips and Barb Zorotovich had sole possession of third and we had another tie at 2 wins between Sandy Zutter and Terri DeMartino and Barbara Garcia and Suzy Russell, with Barbara and Suzy having the edge of 50 to 40 in points scored to get fourth. Trish DeLeo and Anna Price rounded out the bracket in sixth.
Over in the Cream bracket, Denise Vinci and Gloria Masiado set the pace by going undefeated through the first 5 games. Cheryl Hallgren and Michele Blanchard collected 4 wins for second. Jill Pfankuch and Stacey Thomson had 3 for third and Cathy Huffman and Lori Gloersen got 2 for fourth. Rounding out fifth and sixth were the Patty Melts, Pat Mailman and Patty Ruch with 1 win, followed by Julie Shore and Ester De Maio.
For the championship round, the Gelatos fielded the teams of Denise and Gloria, Jackie and Heidi, Cheryl and Michele, and Julie and Lori. The cream of this crop were Jackie and Heidi, going unbeaten to earn the Gold. Just a step behind were the hard hitting duo of Denise and Gloria, winning the Silver with their 2-1 record. Cheryl and Michele made a solid showing at Bronze and Julie and Lori made it interesting in the final game against the eventual Gold medalists with a 8-11 loss and Honorable Mention.
The Soft Serves saw some smooth and silky play from Jill and Stacey, who went 3-0 to win Gold. In at Silver were another hard hitting pair, Barbara and Suzy. Sandy and Barb showed amazing consistency by having all their games decided by a 11-3 score, with the only negative being two of those games, going to 3-11 to the other medalists. Cathy and Lori earned Honorable Mention but nearly upset the cart before falling to Jill and Stacey, 10-11.
And finally, we have the Fro Yos! While not exactly ice cream, it was a fun bunch to watch. Gold went to the undefeated Sandy and Terri. Silver and Bronze were decided in the final game between the Patty Melts and Julie and Ester. The two teams were evenly matched, with Silver going to the Patty Melts in a 11-10 victory. Honorable Mention went to Trish and Anna.
