You are bound to see some fireworks and boy did we see some today!
In the initial round robin phase, we had only 1 team go undefeated, Pam and Jeff Priddy, in the White bracket. The 3 other qualifying teams in the White bracket found themselves in a three-way tie, each gaining a victory against each other so we needed to review the points scored to see who would else would make it into the Space X bracket. It was a tight race with the youngsters of Matthew Penasse and Jackie O’Connell nosing out the team. of Sam Ragland and Dan Scheer and of Rick Eldridge and Ann Lemke by scoring 35, 33, and 32, respectively. Not to worry, those 2 teams made it to the middle of the pack for the Blue Origin bracket.
Over in the Blue bracket, we had 2 more sets of ties to work out. With 3 wins each, Maike and TIm DeMaria edged out Steve Esselborn and Sharon McFarland, 43 to 40. In hindsight, Steve and Sharon should have gotten the nod as they beat Maike and Tim, 11-10 in game 1. Nevertheless, they both made it into the Space X bracket and everybody will get a chance to face off against each other. That left the remaining 2 teams with 2 wins each. Nancy Pierce and Ted Cetola led the way with 36 points to get the top seed for the Blue Origin Bracket. Greg Phillips and Barb Zorotovich had 26 points as the other final team joining Blue Origin.
In the finals, the sparks were flying as both brackets saw 2 undefeated teams meeting up to decide who gets the Gold or Silver and the 2 without wins, battling for the Bronze. Over at Space X, all rockets remained firing with the Priddy’s going undefeated all the way for the Gold. In second for the Silver were Steve and Sharon, and Bronze went to Maike and Tim. In Blue Origin, the Gold went to Nancy and Ted, winning the final game against, Rick and Ann, who took Silver. And, last but not least, Greg and Barb had to dig deep and go into OT to beat Sam and Dan, 12-10, for the Bronze.

Only 2 more regular tournaments remain and then we have the Summer MLP League. The Women’s Combined Advanced-Intermediate Doubles is up next week, June 21, and we have 17 teams already signed up. Who’s going to be 18th team? And the week after that, we have the Men’s Combined Advanced-Intermediate Doubles (signup opens, June 16 @8:30p). No games for the Fourth of July weekend (extended open play) and we close out the season with the Summer Unlimited MLP League, starting July 12.
