We beat the rain today even as we entertained 2 sets of Dreambreakers in today’s matches.
Stragglers v Dirty Deeds: Dirty Deeds came out on top, winning 6 of the 8 games played, earning 3 points for the day. It wasn’t all roses as half those games had to extend into overtime, with 2 of those games taken by the Women Stragglers (Sue Reich and Lisa Farrell), 24-22, 22-20, over Dirty Deed’s Suzanne Buchman and Mandy Berg. The Men’s then did Dirty (Dave Berg and Scott Hudnall) to the Straggler (Ron Rivas and Ed Duran), taking their games 21-17 and 21-13. Dave and Mandy teamed up to beat Sue and Ron, 22-20 and 21-13, and Suzanne and Scott did the same over Lisa and Ed, 22-20 and 21-16.
Dinkin’ Donuts v Slice is Right: The Donuts had to come from behind to overtake a very game Slice is Right team. To try and get at least 1 doubles of each type in, the teams followed the format of playing their game 1 women’s and men’s, followed by their game 1 mixed doubles, before completing all their best 2 out of 3 in one go. The Men’s Slice of Tom Senyitko and Brian Owens were the first to complete their doubles, beating the Donut’s Keith Buchman and Scott Shore, 21-17 and 21-19. The Slices Mixed Doubles of Evelyn Good and Tom were next to take out the Donut’s Dana Poulson and Keith, in a wild 28-26 and then 21-18. The teams opted to finish the Mixed Doubles first to try and get Scott out for another engagement. Scott and Michaele Danielson split their first 2 games against Brian and Marla Kilfoyle, 22-20 and 16-21. Turns out, Scott needed to stick around longer as they won their 3rd game, 24-22, and putting the pressure on Michaele and Dana to win their 3rd over Evelyn and Marla to get to the Dreambreaker. In their series, Evelyn and Marla took game 1 but it was then Michaele and Dana 21-19 and 21-16 to tie the match up at 2 points a piece. In the Dreambreaker, the teams were pretty much trading points until they reached 11 and traded ends. Once the both teams reached 12 pts, the Donuts turned on the juice and outscored Slice, 9-2, to win it 21-14.
Oz Squad v Ball Crushers: In the other matchup leading to a Dreambreaker, the Oz Squad Men’s (Bob Moeykens and Steve Oursler) smashed the Crushers’ (Kevin Faust and Jim Faggiana), 21-13 and 21-17. On the other foot, the Women Crushers’ (Brenda Glenn and Lucy Gambescia) needed 3 games to take down the Squader’s (Vicki Babbe and Linda Piatt), 18-21, 21-11 and 21-19. The Mixed Doubles team split with Maureen and Jim winning over Linda and Bob, 23-21 and 21-11, and Vicki and Oz overcoming a 2nd game loss to win over Lucy and Kevin, 21-19, 21-23 and 21-12. The Dreambreaker went back and forth until both teams reached 14 points and then the Oz Squad turned on the afterburners on an 7-1 run to win 21-15.
Great playing everyone! 9 of 29 games went into o/t and 2 matches ending with a Dreambreaker. It doesn’t get any better than that!
