Fun day of play to kickoff the King Kong Tournaments MLP League. A total of 32 teams of 2 women and 2 men (128 players!) signed up to play with 18 of those playing in the Champions League and 14 for the Challengers League.
In the Champions League, only 1 team ran away from everyone with a 4-0 record: Dink Floyd. Both of their regular men players were injured and they called up Mark Attwood and Steve Campbell to fill the void with Josette Deuchars and Lisa Sullivan. Each bracket also saw a Dreambreaker where teams Bruton, with Jim Bruton, Chris Hildebrandt, Sharon Miller (s) and Judi Hemmerle; The Dink Squad, with Ralph Brine, Oliver Sun, Randy Friedman and Claudia Fontana; and Baseline Ballers, with Perry Olson, Gary Jones, Wendy Tyree, and Cassandra Rollins each taking the W. Otherwise the rest of the brackets were decided by 3-1 records.
The Challengers League saw 3 teams finish with 4-0 records in their matches and they were the Can-Am Crushers, with Cathy Bawden, Wendy Bledsoe, Bill Harris, and Don Deroo; the Rally Wreckers, with TIm Lewis, Jen Buehler, William McCorkle, and Pam Copeland (s); and Lucky 13, with Nancy Summers. Maureen Plainfield, Daniel Krick, and Jim Alexander. The remain field all saw matches that ended with 3-1 records.
Great job eveyone and thanks to my volunteers Chas Popplestone, Miriam Bernstein and Fred Veenstra for assisting with wrangling everyone into position plus special thanks to Tony Chiravolo for making sure I was caffeinated for today and Fred for keeping me fed and hydrated.
The Champions League will continue play through early March and the Challengers League will run to the end of March.
