Circus Maximus! 3 Tournaments in One Day!

Holy cow! We pulled it off! 3 tournaments in one go! The Men’s 3.0, the Women’s Singles and the Men’s Singles! And what a day for it!

In the Men’s 3.0, 8 teams played 7 round robin games to find out who is the current top banana. 3 of those teams rose to the top with Snapper Mawby and Robert McCollough finishing undefeated to earn them the Gold. Randy Walker and Bob Mell got the Silver, with the 1 loss by 4 to Snapper and Rob. And for the Bronze, it was Ron Houck and Guy Clarkson, with 4 wins and a total of 72 points scored, out pointing the 2 other teams with 4 wins with 64 and 58 points respectively. Well done guys!

In the Women’s Singles, we had 5 women square off in 5 round robin matches. I’ll just say that as much as I like playing singles, I think I would have needed therapy if I had to play them 1 on 1. The Gold went to Kathy Pals, with 3 wins and a total of 43 points, followed by Karen Marlowe with the Silver, also with 3 wins and 37 points, and Ann Marie Gavinski for the Bronze, with 2 wins and 40 points (sorry for jinxing you, Ann Marie!).

If there any games to watch, it was the Men’s Singles. 16 men stepped up to the challenge and, boy, what a good show they put on! Half the field was knocked out after the first round of 3 round robin games and the remaining 8 battled in 3 more round robin games to determine the top 4 going to the finals. All of the top 4 had 2 wins. In the number 1 slot was Anthony Campbell, with 32 points, and Patrick McCabe second, with 28 points. Third and fourth needed to go to the points differential as they each had 27 points. In third was Rick Langford, with a +13 point differential, and finally, in the fourth spot, Bill Harris, with a +9 point differential.

Bill Harris ultimately won Gold by first defeating Anthony Campbell, 11-4, and then Patrick McCabe, 11-7. Patrick earned Silver by besting Rick Langford, 11-6, to meet Bill. In the Bronze game, it was the rubber match between Anthony and Rick (Rick won their first game, 11-10 and Anthony the second, 11-5) and Rick pulled it off with a 11-5 win.

Kongratulations to the medalists and hats off to all the participants and spectators who came to watch.

Special thanks to my volunteers today (Chas Popplestone, Laura Mayes, Diane Fuleky, Kaylene Engel, Julie Ferron, and Diane Lampert), I couldn’t have done it without you!

And thanks to Gina Napoleon, Lisa Graham, Curtis Black, Vickie Ostrander, Mary Dalu, and everyone else who was in on my early birthday celebration because I clearly was not!
