Blessed to have another beautiful Sunday to kick off the Stars & Stripes Games to benefit the Villages Honor Flight.
Today we had Army v Navy and the Marines v Air Force in our first match, followed by Marines v Navy and Army v Air Force for match #2.
The Navy team, represented by Jason Hedden, Don Borque, Sharon Miller, Diane Fuleky, Jason Powell, Brian McCarthy, Tracy McKenna, and Vicki Hesselgrave, took it to team Army, staffed by Fred Veenstra, Billy Hurin, Regina White, Melissa Six-Westerfeld, Doug White, Bill Russell, Maryanne Von Cappeln, and Janet Artrip, and came away with a 3-1 and 4-0 performance to gain 6 points in the first round of match play.
The Marines, with Buzz Baron, Paul Damren, Terri Grabiack, Trixie Swanson, Doug LeFebvre, Sue Reich, Meta Smith, Smitty, Janice Capdepon, and Wes Capdepon, split their games with Air Force, piloted by Herb Smaltz, Robert McCollough, Debbie Merlock, Gail Lalley, Gavin Mason, Danny Webster, Tobi Meyers, and Teresa England, with the Marine ‘A’ team winning 3-1 but their ‘B’ team going down 0-4, to earn both teams 3 points in the round.
Going into match #2, the Marines regrouped against Navy, with their ‘B’ team besting Navy 3-1 and forcing Navy into a tiebreaker with their ‘A’ team. Navy pulled it together to with take that tiebreaker and 2 points in the second match, to the Marines 4 points.
Army and Air Force split their games, with the Air Force’s ‘A’ team winning 3-1 and Army’s ‘B’ team doing the same, giving both teams 3 points in round 2.
At the end of the day, Navy has the lead with 8 points, followed by the Marines with 7, Air Force at 6, and Army with 3.
The Villages Honor Flight saw some good action with donations and 50/50 raffles and will be present again next week to continue their drive. The 50/50 will drawing will be held the weekend of Nov 23 so come on out next week to get in on the action!
