Women's Doubles - Beginner - Sunday, Apr 27, 2025
- Signups opens on Apr 15, 2025 @ 8:30p
The first 18 teams to sign up will play and the remaining teams will be placed on the wait/sub list in case a team or player needs to withdraw.
If we fill the first 18 slots, the group will be divided into 3 brackets of 6 teams each for 5 round robin games. The top team in each bracket will move on to the playoffs and finals. The 4th seed will be the best of the rest. Tie breakers will be determined by head-to-head record within your bracket, wins, total points, and points differential.
The draw will be adjusted if we do not get 18 teams (15, 12, 10, 8, and 6 are the number of teams that are workable for the round robin play).
Use the following for guidance for the tournament level:
- Advanced: strong 4.0 and better
- Adept in all parts of the game
- Use advanced strategies
- Experienced in competitive play
- Intermediate: strong 3.5 to average 4.0
- Can hit a mix of shots
- Can sustain longer rallies
- Incorporate rules and strategy and use effective court positioning
- Beginner: average 3.5 and lower
- Can hit simple shots
- Have basic understanding of rules, scoring, and positioning
Games will be to 11, win by 1 in the round robin. Playoffs and Finals are games to 11, win by 2.
- Switch ends at 6
- Second team listed for each game will perform the "coin flip" (1 or 2 behind the back), the other team will call it to determine serve/end/receive or defer
- 1 time out per team per game, although water breaks are unlimited
Fees will be $2 per team to cover the admin expenses and medals.
Please arrive to the courts by 9:50a and we will begin play at 10a. Do not interfere with the open play time. You may still arrive earlier but please let those who are there for open play get on the courts before we take them over. (Make sure that there are open courts available and that there are no open play players waiting before using the free court. We have been asked by the Rec Center to let open play complete by 9:50a but any games in progress can continue until 10a.) If you are looking to warm up ahead of the games, Aviary and Homestead are nearby.
IMPORTANT:
MAKE SURE TO HAVE YOUR VILLAGES ID OR GUEST PASS. THE RECREATION DEPARTMENT HAS INFORMED ME THAT THEY ARE PLANNING TO SCAN IDS PRIOR TO THE TOURNAMENT. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE YOUR ID, YOU WILL BE ASKED TO LEAVE BY THE RECREATION DEPARTMENT.
THERE IS ALSO THE CHAIRS ON COURT RULE THAT IS BEGINNING TO BE ENFORCED - CHAIRS MAY BE OFF COURT ALONG THE FENCES BUT NOT ANYWHERE ON THE PLAYING SURFACES.
Volunteers needed.
