The Doug train keeps on trucking and claims another Gold, this time with Jodi!
It was another gorgeous Sunday at the King Kong Tournaments and the Mixed Doubles Age 64 and Younger! We were stuck at 11 teams as of early last week then the entries came pouring in at the last minute to host a full line up of 18 teams. And boy, what a line up it was!
And for another Sunday, the 5th consecutive match to find Doug McClintock playing for a medal, this time with Jodi Schaffer as his partner. Also going undefeated were Kaylene Engel and Rick Estes, and Jason Hedden and Bryana Witt. And that’s how they were seeded with a +47, +30 and +24 points differential, respectively. In the 4th seed (the best of the rest), it came down to David Keller and Lisa Sullivan and Maureen Plainfield and Rob Schulz. David and Lisa got the nod with 53 total points and +18 points differential to Maureen and Rob’s 44 total points and +16 points differential.
In the first round of Semis, Doug and Jodi handled David and Lisa, 11-2 , to move into the Gold-Silver match. David, to his credit, tried to claim the $5 body bounty on Doug but Doug was just able to avoid being bagged in the closing points of their match. In the other Semis, Jason and Bryana beat Kaylene and Rick, 11-7 , setting up Jason and Bryana, to face his former partner in the Men’s 64 and Younger partner, Doug and Jodi.
Experience won day with Doug and Jodi taking out Jason and Bryana, 11-4. Hat’s off to Doug for claiming his 4th Gold and Jodi’s 1st. For their efforts, Jason and Bryana got the Silver. In the Bronze match, Kaylene and Rick prevailed over David and Lisa, 11-2. The score was not indicative of the play going on and this game could have gone either way.
Kongrats to all the winners and paricipants! Those were some really fine games being played!
