The original plan was to give everyone a break from the heat but none of the ladies would have it and voted to restore the previous format of games to 11, win by 1. With that out of the way, each team marched onto the courts with their weapons drawn, ready to slice and dice their way to the podium.
In the Red bracket, 2 teams finished 4-1 and 2 more teams finished 3-2 to contend for spots in the finals. Among the 4 game winners, the nod was given to Sue Reich and Lisa Deister as your bracket winners over Karen Thomas and Dana Dodge, who lost their head-to-head game 11-2 in game 3. For 3rd were Suzanne Buchman and Mary Ellen Dowsett, ahead of your 4th place team of Kerry Schilling and Marcie Sullivan. They faced each other in game 2, with Suzanne and Mary Ellen coming out on top 11-4.
In the White bracket, Michaele Danielson and Andrea Bobby cruised their way to a perfect record for first. Second place and third was a bit muddied as some scores had to be reviewed and corrected to determine who finished where. In the end, Marla Kilfoyle and Deb Merlock finished second with a stellar 4-1 record. Third went to Evelyn Good and Pam Henry at 3-2 and 4th Melissa Six-Westerfeld and Vickie Ostrander.
In the Blue bracket, we had another 5-0 winner with Diane Fuleky and Laura Mayes cleaning court. Second and third was between two 3 game winners and Rhonda Lakip-Ochoa and Ileana Velez get the #2 spot by winning game 1, 11-2, over Lee Warbinton and Diana Sellers. Coming in 4th were Mandy Berg and Jackie Bain with 2 wins on their card.
Among the top 4, Diane and Laura edged out Michaele and Andrea for the #1 seed, giving up 18 pts to 20 pts, respectively. In at the 3rd seed are Sue Reich and Lisa Deister. The final spot in the Black Mamba Championship bracket was between the other two 4 game winners. Marla and Deb scored 52 pts to edge out Karen and Dana at 46 pts, moving them over to the top of the Cottonmouth Consolation bracket. Rounding out the bracket there were several 3 game winners, with 45, 43, and 42 points making the cut (Evelyn Good and Pam Henry, Suzanne Buchman and Mary Ellen, and Rhonda and Ileana, respectively). The 2 other teams with 3 wins missing the cut were Kerry and Marcie (40 pts) and Lee and Diana (36 pts).
We were just underway with the Kill Bill finals when Mother Nature intervened with a short soaking rain. But with such a strong field for the finals, I decided to crown all the finalists as Gold medal winners! Kongrats on a great day of play and to all the teams who participated!
