Week 1 – Men’s Winter Cup – Jan 21, 2024 – The Lowballerz Advance to the Finals

News Flash: The Lowballerz take week 1 of the Men’s Winter Cup! It was a tight match with the Smart Aces coming in second followed by Team Robert Kraft. 

The morning may have started cold but things heated up pretty quickly as the men battled it out on the courts. The top 3 teams were neck to neck going into the fifth match. 

The Lowballerz never dropped more than 2 games in their matches and finished with a total of 23 wins. The second place team of the Smart Aces were laid low by the Ballerz, 4 games to 2, and the third place team of Robert Kraft also suffered a similar fate, losing 5 games to 1. Team Steve Esselborn made a fine showing at fourth and could have been a factor if either of the Lowballerz or the Smart Aces didn’t show for match 5. 

Although it didn’t show in the win column, both Team Musone and Team Deroo, had some excellent games as their points differential totals indicated that on average, they lost by no more than 20 points per match (6 games). That’s pretty darn competitive!

Lastly, thanks to our volunteers, Dan Ryan, Tom Weiss, Kaylene Engel, and Diane Fuleky for braving the cold and managing the scoreboard. I couldn’t do it without you!

Kongrats to all the players and fans on another super day on the courts! The Lowballerz will return to face the winners of week 2 next Sunday! You don’t want to miss that!
