What a picture perfect day for the Women’s Intermediate Doubles at the King Kong Tournaments at Ezell! We had a field of 15 of teams and did they come out to play!
Two teams went undefeated: Martha Clements and Rhonda Phillips in the Red bracket and Cynthia Baldelli and Dawn Bruenn in the Blue Bracket. Martha and Rhonda claimed the top seed with a +28 point differential to the +22 for Cynthia and Dawn. The White bracket was pretty balanced across the board with Gladys Foley and Jeanine Hillman getting the nod with 3 wins, 41 total points and a +13 point differential. Four other teams finished with 2 wins each but to get into the 4th seed, you needed at least 3. It was a close finish for that final spot as 2 total points separated the remaining 3 game winners, giving the edge to Linda Sacre and Di Abolical Lampert over Barbara Garcia and Suzanne Russell with 37 and 35 points, respectively.
That set up a semis between Linda and Di versus Martha and Rhonda and the other between Cynthia and Dawn against Gladys and Jeanine. Linda and Di came out on fire to take their game over Martha and Rhonda, 11-2. Cynthia and Dawn had a little more work to do and were able to stop Gladys and Jeanine, 11-6.
That created a revenge match between Cynthia and Dawn with Linda and Di for the Gold-Silver game. In their game 3 meeting, Cynthia and Dawn almost dashed Linda and Di’s chances for the playoffs by coming away with a 11-4 win. It was a hotly played game but Linda and Di prevailed with a 11-9 win for the Gold. In the Bronze game, Gladys and Jeanine played pretty evenly with Martha and Rhonda but after the turn, Martha and Rhonda kept the pressure up and took it with a 11-6.
