We had a half hour rain delay but thanks to our great pickleball community and players, we got week 2 of our Stars & Stripes Games done and dusted!
Special thanks to Ted Kegeris and Chas Popplestone for the use of their Vaptrs! Couldn’t have done it without you! And also to our early arrivers, Meta, Smitty, Brian McCarthy, Don Bourque, and Terri Grabiak who helped to sweep and squeegee ahead of the other players arriving.
For Match 1, we had Army taking on the Marines and Air Force paying Navy. The Marines were on fire vs Army, with both their A and B team besting their opponents 3-1 and 4-0 and gaining all 6 points for Match 1. Navy almost did the same with Air Force but were forced into a tiebreaker, with Air Force winning their Men’s Doubles and their second Mixed Doubles on Team A. But the Navy’s top Mixed Doubles team of Jason Hedden and Sharon Miller was too much for Air Force, giving them the 3-2 margin for Team A and 3-1 for Team B, and a total of 5 points for Match 1. Air Force collected 1 point for pressing Team A into the tiebreaker.
Match 2 saw Air Force against the Marines and Navy v Army. These were the first of the rematches and the outcome was nearly the same as from week 1. Air Force split with the Marines, 3-1 each, and each receiving 3 points apiece. While Navy wasn’t as dominant as they were in week 1, they captured both sets of games by 3-1 and collected all 6 points against Army, once again.
For the week, Navy was the big winner, collecting 11 points for the day to finish with 19. Marines also had a great day, adding 9 points to reach 16. Air Force only managed to gain 4 points to close the day at 10. Army played some great games but, unfortunately, were not able to gain any points and remain in 4th with 3 points.
Next week is the final week of the regular season.

The Marines have a chance to tie Navy only if they beat Navy and Army in both their matches but we’ll have to do some math for the tiebreaker to see who’s #1. Navy can finish #1 by just beating the Marines in the opener. Air Force has third locked up as there is only 6 points on the line and they lead Army by 7. Army may only have 3 points but have shown a lot heart and played the Marines pretty tough in their losses today so don’t count them out for the Bronze in the end.
