What a beautiful Sunday to watch the beautiful and athletic women play in the King Kong Tournament’s Combined 6.5 event at Ezell!
Eight teams scrapped in 3 round robin matches in 2 randomly seeded brackets. We had a two-way tie in the front bracket and per the tie-breaker rules, Liz Sinicropi and Barb Kennedy nosed out Marla Kilfoyle and Syndee Daugherty to get the top seed. They both finished 2-1, with Liz and Barb beating Marla and Syndee 11-9 in the first game for their tie-breaker. In the bottom draw, it was a three-way tie between Amanda Berg and Stephanie Dance, Christina Jones and Melissa Six-Westerfeld, and Maike DeMaria and Nancy Grzesiek, each going 2-1, each losing to each other. The top 2 seeds came down to Total Points, with those three teams finishing with 30, 28, and 23 points, respectively. Amanda and Stephanie earned the top seed from their bracket and Christina and Melissa, second.
That set up the Semis with Liz and Barb facing Christina and Melissa on court 6 and Amanda and Stephanie against Marla and Syndee on court 9. The match between Liz and Barb v Christina and Melissa was a tight contest going into OT with Liz and Barb finally taking control and winning 14-12. In the other Semi, Marla and Syndee powered their way to a 11-4 win over Amanda and Stephanie and setting up a revenge game for both medal matches.
In the Gold-Silver game, Marla and Syndee avenged their earlier loss to Liz and Barb, taking the victory and the Gold with a 11-5 win. For a fine performance, Liz and Barb got Silver. In the Bronze game, Christina and Melissa also avenged their earlier loss (6-11) and claimed the Bronze over Amanda and Stephanie by the same 11-6 score. Great showing by Amanda and Stephanie and all the other participants. Kongratulations to the medalists and thanks to the nice crowd of 20-30 fans who came out to watch!
