Literally, hats off to all the players as the wind demanded attention for the games today. While it made for very entertaining play, it left many players guessing where the ball was going to land once it was airborne.
There were 2 key matches to see who would stay on top of their brackets: Double D’s v Kitchen Carnage for the Blues and The Lobsters v the WIZARDS for the Whites. The D’s were able to hold off Kitchen Carnage and won all 4 matches. It wasn’t easy as 3 of those matches saw overtime games of 27-25, 26-24 and another 26-24.
The Lobsters salted away the WIZARDS, 4-0, with the WIZARDS putting up a brave fight by pushing 2 games into OT, 24-22 and 22-20. In the end, the Lobsters just had too much fire power and was able to make the wind their ally and remain perfect in their game play.
The Honey Badgers took advantage of Carnage’s loss by taking their contest against the Designated Dinkers, 4-0. It looked like the Dinkers were going to give the Badgers a stomachache by pushing the opening Men’s Doubles to 3 games but the Badgers buckled down and swept the remaining games to move into second place in the Blue division.
The contest between Jim & Friends v the Net Warriors saw the most competitive play of the day with three of their matches going to 3 games and ending the regular play 2-2, forcing one of two Dreambreakers played today. In the Dreambreaker, Beth Dicomitis and Maureen Plainfield of Jim & Friends earned their pay for the day, outscoring their counterparts from the Warriors, 12-5 to win the Dreambreaker. Still, the Warriors held on to their #4 spot this week. If the Warriors want to make it into the Champions bracket for the playoffs, they have to beat #1 Double D’s combined with Kitchen Carnage going down against the Dinkers.
The Final Four also took advantage of the WIZARDS loss to move into a points tie with them but have a better winning percentage to take second in the White bracket with their 3-1 win over the Unforced Terrors. It was another competitive contest with 2 of the matches going to 3 games.
The Dreambreakers are still in the hunt by winning in their own Dreambreaker over Welcome to the Jungle. Again, 2 of those matches went to 3 games as both teams traded wins between the Men’s and Women’s Doubles and their Mixed 1 and 2 Doubles. In the end, the Dreambreakers superior singles play sealed their victory over the Jungle.
There could be a real log jam on who makes it to the Champions round of the playoffs in the White bracket. The Final Four face the undefeated Lobsters and the Dreambreakers are knocking on the door if they can get past the Unforced Terrors. The WIZARDS can’t get complacent and need at least 1 win to keep their Champions dream alive.
Thanks again to the fans who came to watch, Fred Veenstra for helping get the games get started and Jim & Friends and Net Warriors for sticking around to help shlep my gear back to my car with the parking fiasco due to the broken hydrant.

Unfortunately, there was a problem with the audio on the livestream where sound was not recorded until the microphone started working again for the Dreambreaker. And on top of that, the GoPro on court 3 unexpectedly died while recording game 3 of the Women’s Double. A shame since they had 3 matches go to 3 games and also went to a Dreambreaker.

It’s a shame since these two teams played two more matches to 3 games and then faced off in a Dreambreaker, too!)
