The Women’s Advanced Doubles did not disappoint at today’s King Kong Tournaments! Not only did we have a super competitive field, mother nature decided to kick it up a notch and threw in steady 12+ mph winds just to make the games all that more interesting.
On courts 1-3, it was Kimberly Hedden and Mary Ellen Dowsett edging out Kim Buffington and Linda Kloeckner, each with 4 wins but Kim H and Mary Ellen having a 51 to 46 total points edge.
On courts 4-6, Jonra Jacoby and Bryana Witt finished their day perfect with 5 wins, 55 total points and a +32 points differential. Coming in as the runner-ups were Anne Gould and Toby Newbig with 3 wins and 42 total points, 1 more than Deb Lindewirth and Randy Friedman.
On courts 7-9, the duo of Ann Marie Gavinsky and Dana Poulsen, powered their way to first with 5 wins, 55 points and a +34 points differential, giving them also the top seed for the playoffs over Jonra and Bryana. In second and getting the 4th overall seed were Debbie Merlock and Ronda Busscher with 4 wins and 51 total points, 5 more than Kim B and Linda.
In the Semis, Ann Marie and Dana continued their hot play and smoked Debbie and Ronda 11-0 to reach the Gold-Silver match. It was much the same story with Jonra and Bryana, taking down Kim H and Mary Ellen 11-2.
In the Gold-Silver game, Ann Marie and Dana stayed hot, jumping to an early 5-2 lead. Jonra and Bryana buckled down and made the turn by taking a 6-5 lead into the second half of the game. They went on to win 11-7 for the Gold, giving Silver to Ann Marie and Dana. Debbie and Ronda battled Kim H and Mary Ellen to a 11-8 victory for the Bronze.
Kongrats to all the medalists and a big round of applause to all the participants and fans. Special thanks to Miriam Bernstein, Fred Veenstra and Tony Chiravolo for assisting with the scorekeeping.
