What a beautiful day for pickleball as we wrap up W3 of the Unlimited Winter League playoffs!
 
In the Champions bracket, the Lobsters swept the WIZARDS to maintain their perfect record with 2 more weeks of play remaining. There were some very competitive games played but in the end, the Lobsters were just more consistent to take those sets.
 
The Double D’s made up their lost ground and also swept past the Final Four to get back into the #2 spot in the bracket. They’ll need to win again next week versus the WIZARDS if they want to stay within striking distance of the #1 Lobsters. The Final Four kept it tight in the Men’s and Women’s Doubles but could not keep pace in the Mixed matches.
In the battle of the subs, the Honey Badgers brought in Pam Copeland for the resting Jen Buehler and the Kitchen Carnage recruited Kathy Pals for Dana Poulsen and Scott Shore for Dave Keller. The Badgers won their Women’s and Carnage captured the Men’s to go 1-1 into the Mixed matches. Both those matches went to 3 games, with the Badgers coming out on top in for both sets.
 
Over in the Consolation bracket, the Unforced Terrors kept a hold on first but dropped their games to the Dreambreakers in a Dreambreaker. The Dreambreakers also went to the bench and brought in Ron Herzog and Dottie Soufy for Bill Harris and Wendy Bledsoe to aid in their victory.
 
The Net Warriors put away the Designated Dinkers in 8 straight games but the Dinkers made a strong showing with 3 of those games into OT before yielding. The Warriors also got into the sub game with Tom Musone playing for Mike Vacanti. The win moved the Warriors into second place, separated by only a few percentage points from the Terrors.
 
Jim & Friends played in yet another Dreambreaker with another victory, this time over Welcome to the Jungle. The Friends also brought in a sub, Tracy Herzog for Mo Plainfield. Both teams split their Men’s and Women’s doubles and the Jungle needed a win in their Mixed 2 Doubles to send them into the Dreambreaker. That Mixed 2 Doubles was a well fought match with the first game going into OT for a win to Jim & Friends. The Jungle dug deep and took the next 2 games 21-19 and 21-17 to give them a chance in the Dreambreaker. Jim & Friends led early 11-5 before the Jungle began closing the gap but it was not enough, losing 21-16.
