It was another picture perfect Sunday for the King Kong Tournaments MLP Champions League Semis and Finals!
In the Semis, we watched a thrilling match between the #1 Dink Floyds against a scrappy #4 Born to Rally. Both the Men’s and Women’s doubles went to OT with the Born to Rally Men going up 26-24 against Dink Floyd. In the Women’s, Dink Floyd flipped the script with a 24-22 win over BTR. Both of the Mixed Doubles were also close, with both teams splitting the games and with one more that also went into OT, 21-17 in favor of BTR and 22-20 to the Floyds. That setup the ever exciting Dreambreaker where Born to Rally held off a couple of match points before finally yielding to Dink Floyd, 21-15.
In the other Semis, #2 Simply Smashing faced off against the resurgent Super DUPRs, The DUPRs gave it their all but simply could not overcome the Smashings, who won both the Men’s, Women’s and one of the Mixed games for a 3-1 victory over the Supers. Those games were 21-14. 21-16, and 21-17 for Simply Smashing and 21-19 for Super DUPRs.
I couldn’t have staged this better if I tried! The Gold-Silver match had the #1 team, Dink Floyd, played against the #2 team, Simply Smashing. And in the Bronze game, we had a revenge match where #3 Super DUPRs played against #4 Born to Rally, where the Supers swooped in to take the division last week in their final match of the regular season over BTR.
Gold went to Simply Smashing, over Dink Floyd, 3-1. Dink Floyd may have used up too much gas in the Semis as they dropped the first 3 games by the same 21-17 score. In the last Mixed game of the match, pride was on the line and they showed their mettle to win 25-23, for the Silver. In the Bronze match, the Super DUPRs proved to be super over Born to Rally once again by winning, 3-1. They won the Women’s game, 21-15, and both Mixed games, 21-9, and 21-18, while dropping a close Men’s game, 21-19.
