Welcome to King Kong Tournaments!
King Kong Tournaments are weekly Villages pickleball tournaments hosted by fellow Villager, Johnny Kong, every Sunday at Ezell, 10a – 2p.
The Villages hosts several tournaments every year but pickleballers here in The Villages were interested in playing in more tournaments and not necessarily wanting to travel (and pay!) for other tournaments outside of The Villages where many of our people wind up because that’s all that was available.
King Kong Tournaments fills that desire to play in more tournaments and every week, we have different tournaments based on ratings used in The Villages and by Mixed or Women’s or Men’s Doubles.
Some events will be special events like for Halloween or Thanksgiving.
Tournament Specifics
- Teams are Mixed, Women’s or Men’s Doubles, depending on the tournament.
- Each tournament will have a rating associated with it.
- Players are asked to self-rate, generally using the higher of your legacy or tournament Villages rating, or DUPR. An unrated player’s rating can be
vouched for by another player. - Teams can be less than the combined rating for an event but not more.
- Most events will be restricted to age 50+. There will be some tournaments that will be age unrestricted.
- Each tournament will generally have 5 games of randomly selected opponents with a single elimination playoff for the top 4 teams in total points and then wins. Tie breakers will be decided by the total points differential in the games played. Format may change depending on the number of teams signed up for an event.
- If you do not have a partner for when a signup period starts for a tournament, you can name the partner later and hold a reservation with a “tbd” up to 4p of the Friday before the tournament is played.
- The first 18 teams to register will play and all other teams will be wait listed as a backup or sub if another team or player needs to withdraw from an event.
- There is a $2 fee for each team to cover the cost of the medals.
