We are halfway through the season and Dinkin’ Donuts managed to take the midseason crown by winning one set from the hungry Dirty Deeds. They nearly sent the contest into a third Dreambreaker of the day (!!!) if they could have won their final Mixed Doubles game but the Deeds wanted no part of that and sealed the day with a decisive win.
For the record, in the Women’s Doubles, it was Rhonda Lakip Ochoa and Jackie Bain (for the Deeds) 19-21, 21-9, 21-11 over Karen Thomas and Vickie Ostrander (Donuts). On the Men’s side, Kevin Gardner and Dave Berg (Deeds) swept Keith Buchman and Scott Shore (Donuts) 21-19 and 21-17 in a very closely played set. The Donuts Vickie and Scott scored their first point by winning their Mixed Doubles 21-10 and 21-15 over Dirty Rhonda and Scott Hudnall (subbing for Kevin). Karen and Keith made a valient attempt to send the match into a Dreambreaker but Jackie and Dave slammed the door winning 23-21, 21-19 and 21-10
The Stragglers made it interesting by sending their contest against the Oz Squad into a Dreambreaker. The Stragglers Women and their Mixed 2 Doubles each won and the Squads Men and Mixed 1 Doubles won to even up the contest at 2-2. Sue Reich and Lisa Farrell had to come back after dropping their first game 16-21, with a 21-13 and 21-19 to take the set from Vicki Babbe and Deb McCarty. Ron Rivas and Jason Powell played a spirited set but lost to the Oz himself (Steve Oursler) with Dave Moyer, 22-20 and 21-15. Vicki and Oz were on cruise control for their Mixed Doubles against Lisa and Jason, winning 21-13 and 21-17. In a tight contest, Sue and Ron edged out Deb and Dave, 21-19 and 22-20 to send them to the Dreambreaker. For the Squad, this was their 3rd Dreambreaker of the season and they remain perfect by closing the door on the Stragglers, 21-13, and to stay at number 2 at the midway point.
The Slice is Right and Ball Crushers kept pace with competitive play and also finished 2-2, with the Slice taking the Women and Mixed 2 Doubles and Crushers the Men and Mixed 1 Doubles. For the Women, it was Evelyn Good and JoJo Koscheski doing it in 3 games, 14-21, 21-17 and 21-16 over Mo Plainfield and Lucy Gambescia. Rob Schultz and Kevin Faust even things up with a 21-15 and 22-20 win over Oliver Sun and Brian Owens. Lucy and Kevin kept the momentum rolling by winning a tight set, 22-20 and 21-19 over Evelyn and Brian. JoJo and Oliver sent the contest into the Dreambreaker by coming up with a close 22-20 and then flooring it with a 21-9 victory over Rob and Mo. The Ball Crushers kept it close after the first 3 pairs of the Dreambreaker but then the Slice rattled off a series of 3-1 splits and finished 3-0 in the last serve to take the Dreambreaker 21-14.

Next week starts the second half of the season and the home and away teams flip flop from the start of the season.
