It Takes a Village – King Kong Tournaments

First and foremost, thanks for everyone who came early to help dry off the courts, you all are the epitome of what it means to be a village! Special thanks to Ted Kegeris and Chas Popplestone for the use of their Vaptrs, they are amazing! Lot’s of people brought their blowers and towels and we managed to have the courts in playing condition by game time. Woot, woot! Incidentally, if someone accidentally grab one of Rhonda Lakip-Ochoa towels in the process, please get that back to her, thanks!

That level of energy carried over into our matches as we managed to get 2 Dreambreakers in this Sunday. The first came in the match of the day between the Dinkin’ Donuts and the Slice is Right. The Slice jumped ahead early, taking both Women’s and Men’s Doubles only to be tied up by the Donuts, who took both Mixed Doubles. In the Dreambreaker, the Slice couldn’t counter the Donuts’ lineup and they ran away with a 21-11 win.

The second Dreambreaker came in the second match between the Aceholes and the Gangsta’s. The Gangsta’s took the Men’s Doubles and the fist Mixed Doubles and the Aceholes kept pace by taking the Women’s Doubles and then Mixed Doubles 2. Both teams were fairly equal to each other and that showed in the Dreambreaker, with the Gangsta’s slipping by with a 22-20 victory.

The Super Gremlins kept up with their winning way despite dropping a game during each of their matches to go 6-2 for the day. They stretched their lead in the standings by 1 point over the Dinkin’ Donuts since the Donuts got extended into OT by the Slice is Right. The Slice is Right passed their sister team, Let’s Make a Dill, by virtue of their 1 pt consolation by playing in the Dreambreaker, as both teams went 1-1 in their matches. The biggest movers of the day were Carpe Dinkem, winning both their matches and jumping into the #5 spot over the Aceholes. The Gangsta’s also made a solid move up with 5 pts on the day and moving to 7th, passing Dink-N Go-Nuts at #8.

Next week is Labor Day! No matches are scheduled so enjoy extended open play with friends and family over the holidays at Ezell!
