The streak of great weather finally came to an end and it made for interesting play for the final week of the King Kong Tournaments MLP Challengers League. Winds played a role and whichever team that managed it better came out on top.
In the White division, the Rally Wreckers pulled off a perfect season by first defeating the Ace Holes, 4-0, in their first match of the day and earning 3 more points from the absent Paddle Pups. The Ace Hole women put up a valiant effort in their 23-21 loss to open the match but could not keep up with the Wreckers who went on to take the Men’s and both Mixed Doubles by 21-13. 21-12 and 21-17, respectively.
Lucky 13 wrapped up the second seed in the White division by going 3-1 against the Dinkalings, finishing the season for both the Dinkalings and Ace Holes. The Dinkaling Women’s gave them hope by taking the Women’s Double 21-19 but they weren’t able to carry the momentum for the Men’s and Mixed Doubles, losing 21-16, 21-17 and 21-13.
Over in the Red Division, the Can-Am Crushers cruised to a 4-0 win over team Godzilla, 4-0, and clinched as the top finisher in the division with 17 pts. That left the battle for second between Made You Dink and the Spinners & Smashers.
Made You Dink got past team Godzilla in their first match of the day, starting with the Women winning 21-15. The Godzilla Men made things interesting by taking their game 21-14. No longer messing around, Made You Dink then won decisively in both their Mixed games, 21-13 and 21-12.
The Spinners & Smashers got blessed with a forfeit as Team Six got their scheduled scrambled and failed to show up for their first match of the day. That set up the match of the day between MYD and S&S, each with 12 pts and vying for the second seed in the Red Division.
MYD opened with a 21-19 win over S&S in the Men’s Double and extended their lead with a 21-15 win in the Women’s Double. Both Mixed Doubles were close contests and S&S said we’re not done yet by winning both, 21-19 and 23-21. In the deciding Dreambreaker, both teams fought back and forth but Made You Dink was able to prevail with a 21-19 win and earning the second seed in their division and a ticket to the Finals.
