Pinch me! Actually, don’t, I want to keep dreaming about the excellent games played today at the King Kong Tournament Women’s 8.0+ matchup! Wow, I think we had to have witnessed some of the greatest games played this year!
Two teams walked away undefeated and each of the second place finishers were decided by the head-to-head win against each other.
On the front courts, Sharon Miller and Linda Kloeckner went 5-0 and finished with a great +29 points differential. The second place team was Micaele Danielson and Kathy Pals, beating Linda Sacre and Kaylene Engel, 11-4, to even their records to 3-2 and taking the tiebreaker.
On the back courts, Kim Buffington and Pam Copeland, the defending champs, also finished 5-0 with an astounding +40 point differential. For second, it was once again decided between 2 teams with 3-2 records, where Elizabeth Roberts and Deb Halterman gaining the edge over Nina Reilly and Anne Gould when they lost to Liz and Deb 11-3 i. the second game of the round robin.
In the first semifinals, Liz and Deb pushed Sharon and Linda to the edge by going into overtime. Down 9-4, Sharon and Linda dug in and staged an incredible 13-11 come from behind victory to earn their birth to the Gold-Silver game.
In the other semis, Kim and Pam continued their hot streak and quickly dispatched Michaele and Kathy, 11-1, setting up their meeting v Sharon and Linda.
The Gold-Silver game went back and forth, with neither team wanting to give any quarter. Kim and Pam dug in to finally gain the victory, 11-9, and the first 3-peat Gold medalists as a team. Sharon and Linda earned their Silver through their amazing play and resilience. Way to go!
In the Bronze, Liz and Deb stayed hot and while they didn’t gain Gold or Silver, they walked away with their heads held high by taking the Bronze, 11-3, over Michaele and Kathy.
