This is the event that triggered the creation of the King Kong Tournaments The Villages FL!
The original PCVG Women’s 3.5 Doubles Tournament was rained out at the end of June but since it is the PCVG policy not to reschedule any rained out event, I asked if the PCVG or the The Villages Rec Center cared if I scheduled a makeup tournament. It took about a week for them to decide and in the end, they gave me the green light to do so. I actually didn’t need their formal approval as my good friend, Nancy Summers, was winding down the King and Queen of the Hills tournament at Ezell and allowed me to takeover her court reservation.
It was a fun day at Ezell for the Women’s 3.5 Doubles Tournament. A field of 18 teams entered and played 5 round robin games with the top 4 teams proceeding to the finals. The weather cooperated except for a brief shower towards the end of game 4 and the women were troopers for staying while the volunteers and spectators helped dry the courts. In the end, there were 3 undefeated teams and 1 team with a single loss (10-11) making their way to the finals.
Kongratulations to Lori Mueller and Kathy Pals for bringing home the Gold, Diane Fuleky and Patty Verber the Silver, and Tracy Liston and Shelley Watters the Bronze! Coming in fourth was the team of Diane Tortorice and Kim Hedden. Special thanks to Nan, Dan Ryan, Curtis Black, and Michael Zuzulo for volunteering and Luis Garcia, Wes Capdepon, Tony Chiravolo, and Ed Duran for helping to dry the courts.
Great job, everyone!
